MG TC Delivery with a Twist

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 5:57 AM

Never one to back down from a challenge, I recently agreed to deliver a TC project that I'd sold.. now that doesn't sound too difficult I'm sure but the key is in the details. The car was to be delivered, well, upstairs. We had a great time doing this, it was the sort of thing you shouldn't enjoy but did all the same.

What could possibly go wrong?

Let's hope he's not a health & safety inspector..

Success! The new owner took this photograph, I think he thought he was dreaming after it all went off without a hitch. Well now he has proof.. you can all see this, right?

ENV Pre-Selector, XPAG Engine..

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 2:44 PM

Something I've been threatening to do for a long time, here's the results. An ENV pre-selector gearbox mated to an XPAG engine, this will ultimately be fitted to the TA chassis it is resting on. The gearbox was a request from a client for whom I'm assembling a kit, the 12" brake you can see on the floor is another and there will be more photographs of that to come in the not-too-distant future. Enjoy!

Email Problems - Update

Posted on December 2, 2010 at 1:40 PM

I've just changed internet provider and have had the usual difficulties (for me!) setting things up. If you've sent anything through in the last 48 hours please re-send as I'm unlikely to have received your message. Thanks, Steve.

RIP Mr Freddie Yapp

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 6:16 AM

I was sad to hear of the passing of Freddie Yapp, who had been taken ill recently. Freddie was a real connoisseur of wine, food and cars. Not to mention a bloody good chap and always a good laugh to be around. I recall, after a heavy night, finding Freddie asleep on a pile of tyres. The floor would've been more comfy I'm sure. I found this photograph of Freddie in his element at Montlhéry, he's stood behind his TA (a real rocket). He brought a lot of joy to a lot of people and he will be very sorely missed I'm sure.

Front Mounted Supercharger Setup?

Posted on October 26, 2010 at 8:19 AM

I've happened upon this lovely wade R010 blower which I intend to fit to the front of a customer's MG TA/Q-type kit. Amazing what turns up at Beaulieu still. Dumb iron mounted I suspect it'll cause quite a stir and look the part.

Supercharger Installation, Rolling Road

Posted on August 13, 2010 at 7:24 AM

After I had installed the supercharger, it only seemed sensible to give it a right thrashing! Here's the TD I mentioned earlier on the rolling road at Peter Burgess' workshop.

It's been a busy month..

Posted on August 10, 2010 at 5:01 AM

What a month it's been. The trip to Carcassonne went well with the car completing the course (Tour de l'Aude) without issue. I  can't speak highly enough of the rally, well organised, lovely restaurants and an unexpected stop-off to watch the Bastille day fireworks from the foot of the castle. The MG did well in the 38 degree heat, with no gearbox cover as such and only the bulkhead separating us from the engine I did however wonder whether I'd have been better off in something a little more sensible than a full-blown race car.

I'm also working on my Q/type bodies, I'd like to be in a position to offer them for sale in the not-too-distant future and as such am altering a few details to ensure they're the best available. Welding the edging strip to the front firewall (shown below) is just one example of this.

I've also fitted one of my brand-new supercharger kits to a friend's MG TD, he's now privy to 64 horse power at the rear wheels (75 at the flywheel) and once again able to keep up with modern traffic. Peter Burgess' new rolling road is a wonderful piece of kit, fully computerised and able to calculate all sorts of facts and figures - can't recommend it enough. Here's some photos of our exploits, the fitted blower is a brand new manufacture Eaton M45, I also have a couple of second hand M62 kits currently available.

MG TC Racer - Carcassonne Trip

Posted on July 8, 2010 at 7:11 AM

I've been invited on a local rally next week in the south of France and that's meant wheeling the racer out for the first time since Angouleme last year and facing all those jobs I really didn't want to do!

As you'll see I've had a busy day or two, it's all out and the to do list was as follows;

1. Stop the gearbox jumping out of third (ever heard that one before? ;))

2. Stop the engine from leaking oil (an XPAG, who would have thought it?)

3. Set up my supercharger correctly! I've spent a large chunk of the year researching time to put theory in to practice.

*** UPDATE

Well under way:

1. I've swapped the box for my spare for now, time is ticking! I suspect the thrust washers or the dog teeth are at fault, slightly annoyed as it was "freshly rebuilt" when I got the car!

2. Think I've found out the problem here, the cork gasket on the rear main bearing was made of 2 pieces which had decided to part company. I've found a solid, old fashioned 1 piece and deployed it accordingly... with a bit of luck it'll now be back to leaking at it's normal rate!

3. Nice big pulley added, higher ratio so we should see that boost gauge in action. I know it's a rally not a race but I can hardly turn up with a slow car now can I??

Upon my return I will be modifying the car to meet HTP specification, that should be a laugh!

Spring Cleaning - eBay rarities

Just a one line note to say I've put an FT27 and a set of Luvax front shockers on eBay. In case any of you concours lot read this!

Spring Cleaning - eBay shop launch

Posted on May 11, 2010 at 5:22 AM

Spring is here and with it the usual clearout. I've decided to empty one of my garages, which means selling items I said I'd be buried with. Anyone looking for rare items or concours touches should keep an eye on my web store and eBay over the next week or so.

I've found 5 engines already (including uncracked, crested MPJG block), an FT462 fog lamp, steering columns, Luvax shock absorbers (TA), more parts than I care to think about but it's all got to go! A set of con rods have already appeared in the online shop (link above) and the superchargers arrive early next week.

Do also take a look at my items on eBay. I'll be listing during the evenings this week. To view my items on eBay CLICK HERE
